The
threesentenceficathon starts this Saturday, January 17. Zero pressure comment fic community, where the idea is to write 3 sentence fills for prompts that anyone can post -- the "3 sentences" part is more of a starting point that inevitably leads to creative uses of punctuation. The ficathon is open to new prompts until February 15, but the community is always open to new fills.
JANUARY 2026 BOOK: THE SPELLSHOP
bookclub_dw has chosen The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst as our book for January.
I'll make the discussion post on January 31, 2026. If you have any discussion questions you'd like to be considered, please comment to this post.
Looking for something new to read? This community works just like a facetime book club -- members pick a title per month, read it, and talk about it. \o/

Call for Prompts
Dec. 1st, 2025 05:22 pmThis whole month I hope to fill with prompted stories, to celebrate my lovely readers and surviving the first quarter of the twenty-first century. It’s been jam-packed with crises and chaos, hasn’t it? Time to take a story break… or thirty.

A friend asked me about how to post fiction or other writing on Dreamwidth. Lots of people don't post their content here, just a thumbnail description and a link to it on some other service. This is very frustrating to readers who aren't on that other service and thus can't see the content. Therefore, it's best to post content here, and then you can crosspost it wherever else you want for wider exposure. There are plenty of people who do this, in various approaches. I encourage posting whole creative content here, so let's explore some ways of doing that.

Magpie Monday
Jan. 14th, 2025 02:20 amFor everyone who offers a prompt, I’ll write at least a thousand words (about four pages in an average novel) fitting the moment of realization into whatever universe and characters that the reader suggests. (Be as specific as the reader wishes.) I’ll send a private reading copy, post a thumbnail summary and suggested sponsorship, then continue writing the next prompt. On Tuesday, I’ll post a free story for everyone to enjoy, and will resume writing Voices of the Engines on Wednesday, even if I’m also writing prompt fills. After all the reader copies are sent, I’ll post a summary of the stories and suggested sponsorship amount for each one not yet posted. For those worrying about time zones, don’t. I’ll close the prompt call Tuesday night before I go to bed.
Stop Talking to Each Other and Start Buying Things: Three Decades of Survival in the Desert of Social Media
Prodigy was upset that people were, by and large, using the free communication service they tossed on there just to have more content and not their weird Random Garbage You Don’t Need Storefront. And in many ways, that complaint has only gotten louder over the decades. Stop talking to each other and start buying things. Stop providing content for free and start paying us for the privilege. Stop shining sunlight on horrors and start advocating for more of them. Stop making communities and start weaponizing misinformation to benefit your betters.
It’s the same. It’s always been the same. Stop benefitting from the internet, it’s not for you to enjoy, it’s for us to use to extract money from you. Stop finding beauty and connection in the world, loneliness is more profitable and easier to control.
Stop being human. A mindless bot who makes regular purchases is all that’s really needed.

Poetry Fishbowl Open!
Oct. 15th, 2024 02:06 pmVisit the Poetry Fishbowl -- today's theme is "Quixotic Ideas," but general fantasy prompts should work. Leave prompts, get poetry! If there is at least one new prompter or donor, there will be an extra freebie posted.
This is an occasional midmonth event, with a different theme each time, and it's a good opportunity to see folks interacting in Dreamwidth. The crosstalk among the audience often gets lively as they riff on each other's ideas.
