Newcomers to Dreamwidth

The threesentenceficathon starts this Saturday, January 17. Zero pressure comment fic community, where the idea is to write 3 sentence fills for prompts that anyone can post -- the "3 sentences" part is more of a starting point that inevitably leads to creative uses of punctuation. The ficathon is open to new prompts until February 15, but the community is always open to new fills.

dialecticdreamer is running a prompt call all month in December! Leave prompts, get ficlets. \o/ MOAR GOODEEZ for everyone!  If you're looking for fun activities, or a new writer to follow, this is worth exploring.

This whole month I hope to fill with prompted stories, to celebrate my lovely readers and surviving the first quarter of the twenty-first century. It’s been jam-packed with crises and chaos, hasn’t it? Time to take a story break… or thirty.

A friend asked me about how to post fiction or other writing on Dreamwidth. Lots of people don't post their content here, just a thumbnail description and a link to it on some other service. This is very frustrating to readers who aren't on that other service and thus can't see the content. Therefore, it's best to post content here, and then you can crosspost it wherever else you want for wider exposure. There are plenty of people who do this, in various approaches. I encourage posting whole creative content here, so let's explore some ways of doing that.

dialecticdreamer is hosting Magpie Monday with a theme of "Just hold on a minute, here!" Leave prompts, get ficlets!

For everyone who offers a prompt, I’ll write at least a thousand words (about four pages in an average novel) fitting the moment of realization into whatever universe and characters that the reader suggests. (Be as specific as the reader wishes.) I’ll send a private reading copy, post a thumbnail summary and suggested sponsorship, then continue writing the next prompt. On Tuesday, I’ll post a free story for everyone to enjoy, and will resume writing Voices of the Engines on Wednesday, even if I’m also writing prompt fills. After all the reader copies are sent, I’ll post a summary of the stories and suggested sponsorship amount for each one not yet posted. For those worrying about time zones, don’t. I’ll close the prompt call Tuesday night before I go to bed.

The October crowdfunding Creative Jam is now open with a theme of "Trees."  Come give us prompts, or claim some for your own inspiration.

Follow Friday is a practice that people can do on their individual blogs and/or the followfriday community. This is an opportunity to find new blogs to read and communities to enjoy, highlight your own, and/or recommend some favorites that you already follow.
