newcomers | Daily Activities

Some communities and individual blogs have daily activities or events. These may have unique posts, a standard post that repeats, or somewhere in between. Others are not officially an every day service, but have such high traffic as to generate one or more posts per day. You can find high traffic accounts by searching Interests and/or Latest Things because those list the posts with the most recent ones first, so anything that stays at the top is likely quite active. Also touching on this category are the one-day events, most of which run 24 hours. They may release prompts all at once in a list, or separately hour-by-hour. These usually advertise on the bulletin board / calendar / newsletter communities. Dailies make a good reading choice for people who want to fill up their Reading Page and/or feel sad about abandoned blogs, as well as a good posting choice for those who want to write or draw something every day.

Fannish activities often advertise in

fandomcalendar and/or

fandom_on_dw so watch those if this field interests you. Of these,

fandomcalendar offers a Frequency: One-Time tag, although not all relevant posts use that tag. It does not have a Frequency: Daily tag, but if someone wants to advertise a daily fannish activity there, they might be convinced to add one.

fandom_on_dw does not offer frequency tags, but is a popular place to post all types of fannish events.

Other topics besides fandom can be harder to hunt down because moderators often do not mark their community with Interests or Tags such as "daily," "every day," or other helpful descriptors of timing. However, it's worth trying the search tools for both of those features just in case. You can still find these activities by watching your reading page for things that your friends are doing. Some daily events have banners that participants can use to promote them, especially the 24-hour events. Even with those that don't, you may see friends talking about what things they have signed up to do.

If you like "bleg" posts (short for "blog begging" where you ask questions of your audience) then this is a great topic for that. You can ask your friends what daily events they are doing and/or which ones they recommend for you.

If you run a daily community and/or make daily posts in your blog, then put "daily" in your Tags and Interests so that interested readers can find that. You may also find it helpful to note the frequency and any thematic plans in a calendar so you remember what to post when. If you're just repeating a gather post or using items from a list in order, you may not need the calendar support.

[Daily posts about birdfeeding and related nature topics. If you have an app like Merlin that lets you post your list of birds seen, then you can use that to share your observations.]

capspiration -- Multi-fandom daily screen caps.
[Often multiple screen caps per day.]

comment_fic -- Bite Sized Bits of Fic
[Monday-Friday are theme days. Saturday will be Free for All and Sunday is Lonely Prompt Day.]

dailyicons -- Daily Icons
A Daily Icon Prompt community.
[Daily icon creation challenges.]

eggbug_writes -- A little community to post writing prompts to and see stories.
[Often multiple posts per day including prompts and fills.]

fandom_checkin -- Fandom Check-In is a community for mutual support.
The polls and comments will be visible to anyone, but only members can check-in, see who's checked-in, and comment on posts.
