Newcomers to Dreamwidth

A number of issues at Bluesky have many members looking for a different venue, some of whom are moving to Dreamwidth. Watch for those folks and invite them here to learn more about this platform. If you have friends who are leaving Bluesky, encourage them to consider Dreamwidth -- it's not a close match but does have good privacy and moderation tools, and you can use it for short-form posting if you wish. This post contains resources about how to use Dreamwidth. You can find your Bluesky friends here. You can also export your Bluesky content to a CAR file.

The latest round of capitalist roulette has placed Tumblr at risk of malfunction or collapse. Not a lot of official news is available yet, but what there is sounds ominous.  Are you moving to Dreamwidth?  Find your Tumblr friends here.


Tumblr’s parent company, Automattic, has announced layoffs -- about 16% of its employees. TechCrunch is reporting 281 Automattic employees have lost their jobs. It’s unclear how many of those Automattic employees are Tumblr staff.

2024 Holiday Points Bonus, plus: PRICES WILL INCREASE in 2025

This bonus is active now: for the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

We will increase our prices in 2025 to more closely match the inflation-adjusted original launch prices for paid accounts and premium paid accounts.


If you want to give gifts on Dreamwidth, consider points, because that's a gift that everyone here can use.  Plus it supports the site so DW continues to exist.

That is likely to be a huge jump in prices -- nearly double for a year's paid time -- so if you're thinking about whether to buy paid time, do it this month.

As of October 1, 2024, Cohost has gone to read-only mode.

"in read-only mode, cohost will look and function about the same as it does now. the dashboard, profiles, tag feeds, bookmarked tag feed, search, comments, and pretty much everything else will still function. you will not be able to make new posts, edit or delete existing posts, like posts, follow, unfollow, block, or silence users, edit your profile, or do any other action that would involve changing cohost. due to a bug, account deletions may not be available until after we have processed all data exports."

You still have time to copy your content to other platforms and/or archive your old Cohost pages via sites like Wayback or Ghost. The site is supposed to remain visible up to the end of 2024. It will be deleted on December 31. On January 1, 2025, the redirect will be set to Wayback to prevent linkrot.
