Are you finished reposting?
Oct. 16th, 2024 06:29 pmI've seen two people declare that they have finished reposting their material from Cohost to Dreamwidth. Are you finished? Comment below with your accomplishment in case folks are trying to follow the reposts.

Date: Oct. 17th, 2024 12:17 am (UTC)Not finished reposting, but I've pulled all the content from cohost directly and transferred it into workable sources/links for reposting over time (where that content exists to link to, anyways). Now I can return to posting more generally, instead of trying to "get it over ASAP" as I was concerned about before. I think it's more reasonable that way - less pressure on me, less flooding of other peoples' reading pages.

Yeah, some people worried about the flooding effect when they were trying to repost everything as fast as possible.

Date: Oct. 17th, 2024 01:17 am (UTC)That was fast!

Probably a good idea.
>> I was only using cohost as a fiction publishing page, so I only had around 5 or 6 posts to put on here.<<
That makes sense. I'm glad you got everything ported over.
Not for some time!

Date: Oct. 17th, 2024 02:15 am (UTC)Do you have your Cohost download, or otherwise have your content backed up elsenet? The site is scheduled to disappear at the end of 2024, but realistically could do so anytime.

Date: Oct. 18th, 2024 03:18 am (UTC)So far I have managed to transfer all of the existing entries from my Transgressions Fiction posts. It was nice to clean them up a bit, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to focus on writing new entries soon. I have one I've wanted to craft for a while currently in the works.
I'm still wondering if I ought to bring over all of the Genie Lore posts that I wrote up. Mostly because they were usually very brief, and usually replies to asks submitted via Cohost. Formatting might be quite wonky as a result, and each individual post might seem meager and uninteresting. I'm thinking about finding a way to compile relevant entires together, and include the asks somehow. Perhaps! I am still feeling it out.
Go you!

Go for it!

I would say yes. Save all you can. It helps keep Cohost culture alive on Dreamwidth.

You could always batch them together. I post haiku that way because they are small. But people do use Dreamwidth for microblogging. Some posts are just "I found this cool link" and 100-word drabbles are very popular.

I suggest a tag for Asks, possibly with subcategories like Asks: Genie Lore. This is especially helpful if you want to make an Askbox post like some people are doing. Dreamwidth does have some ask customs but they are different, like "Ask me anything" posts or "Ask me a question from this list." Adding the Cohost version would expand options, which is generally a good thing.

Yay!
Date: Oct. 18th, 2024 06:10 pm (UTC)I'm glad you find it useful.
>> Would you consider making it a sticky post? <<
I put it in the links list in the right sidebar.
I don't use sticky posts because I find them to be aggravating clutter I have to scroll past every time I visit a blog.
