soooo ...

google told me that dw allows users to have multiple journals under one account with easy switching between them. this would be so ideal for my compartmentalization dream & would allow me to start writing more.

but i can't find it in the faq.

any idea where to find this info or directions on how to use this feature? is it even real? D:

also happy holidays y'all!

Hmmmm, I know you can make as many communities as you want! And you can "switch" between them on your profile page/style page/etc. But for different users/journals, I think you have to log out and log in again like normal.

Well ...

The switch should list everything you control.

Mine lists both my personal blog and the communities I run. But it doesn't work as well as it used to. Now it will tell me that it has switched, but not all changed made apply to the new choice. Used to be, they all did. Now I can do things like edit a Links list accurately, but if I try to change the layout style, it applies to my personal blog no matter what I'm trying to edit. Frustrating.

I second what [personal profile] tozka said. :)
You can create as many communities as you want and set them so that you're the only one allowed to post, so they'd work as if they were many different personal journals.
And you can easily switch between them without logging in and out of your main account.
It's slightly similar to how main & secondary blogs work on Tumblr, if you're familiar with that.

As for having different personal journals under the same main account, I don't think that's an option. I'm afraid you'd have to create different personal accounts.

Communities are probably the best way to go for what you have in mind.

Hope it helps. :)

There's a firefox extension called "LJ Juggler" that still works! I use it between my main journal and a couple of character journals for DWRP. Once you set your journals up you click between them to log into whichever one you want to post from.

Huh, really? I used to use ummm what was it called... LJLogin? maybe? way back in the day... and when that broke I went to swapping entire cookie profiles... and when that became too much to handle (granted it was a pain to keep the cookies in sync) I settled on using Firefox containers (one per account), which is still what I am doing today and has its own problems. I thought there was something inherent to the login process these days that made this idea of simply hot-swapping which account you're logged into impossible and that all such extensions would never work anymore, but hey, maybe I should give that one a try.

eta: Last updated in July 2021 doesn't bode well. That's before LJ deliberately broke crossposting from DW in early 2022. This really still works for both LJ and DW?

Let me know if you run into bugs? I've got it on my extension bar now and I use it to log into this and my character journals without issue. Unless there's something horrifyingly wrong on the back end that I don't know about, it's been doing what it says on the tin for me. I'm running it off of firefox from a windows computer!

Well whaddaya know, it does seem to work. I can't get it to accept my LJ account info on my computer at home but I think it might possibly be because we have a Pi-hole set up and that tends to interfere with some things. I haven't looked into that further. But all's well on my work computer, which I use a lot more during most of the year. 👍🏻

Thank you for the Pi-Hole reminder! I've had my poor rasberry pi III sat around for years and I keep meaning to set it up, and then get a little intimidated by it! Too bad it interferes with LJ Juggler though.

Glad the work computer will do, though! Lovely to save a few clicks and passwords without also having to give up control.

DW works fine at home, I think it might be something specific about LJ. I can log in directly, but whatever the extension is doing, it just keeps spinning and then failing. *shrug*

Not natively in the way you're probably thinking. If you have multiple personal journals, you have to either log out and log in or try other tricks like browser extensions (which, as I said to [personal profile] dray, I wasn't aware there were any that still worked) or containers. The closest approximation is to create multiple communities and then restrict them so only you can post. I see that used for things like people wanting to corral their art or fanfic or icon-making adventures into a single dedicated space. Communities cannot post to other communities, however, so if you're doing something like roleplaying, you'll have to create personal journal accounts for that.
