Google's IOS app now adds their links to your website to suck away your traffic, unless you go through a tedious process to opt out.  There's a word for this in zoology: kleptoparasitism

I can be link-heavy at times with my posts, so I have to wonder how this works with pre-existing links. I wasn’t able to find any info on this myself—doesn’t help how recent of a change this is plus the not unique name of the feature.

I can also imagine this potentially leading to confusion if you’re talking about one thing but Google assumes you’re talking about another thing because they have the same name—like, say the Grand Canal from “Mario Party 7” versus the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, versus the Grand Canal in China.
