Date: Dec. 21st, 2025 03:54 am (UTC)The Follow Friday Master Post has lists of active communities by topic where you can look for some based on your interests. Many bloggers use recurring posts to pin down their key interests and maintain activity, which is also a good source of inspiration if you aren't sure what you want to post yet.
Watch for
>>I have no idea how to find others to connect to.<<
Here on Dreamwidth, consider the Add Me communities.
>>I've tried finding people to talk to IRL but keep coming up short and I find myself feeling more and more alone. <<
Alas, that is an increasingly common problem. Society is just less supportive of human connections than it used to be.
One good approach is to think about your hobbies or other interests, and then go places suited to them. A bookworm could check libraries and bookstores, a birdwatcher could frequent parks or nature centers, and so on. Sometimes there are events too.
But you really do have to watch. Today I spotted a flyer for a holiday event that involves walking through an evergreen forest with light displays, and afterwards you can play games, get hot chocolate, and hang out with people. Every other holiday display I've seen locally has been drive through, and the only interaction is at the exit gate to leave a donation and get a few candy canes.
>>I could really use a person, or group, to talk to...I don't know if this was the right platform to begin with.<<
If you want to make actual friends, then DW is a great platform. It's much better suited to genuine connection than the later social media based on getting likes from lots of strangers.
Looking for other people's activities is only one option. You can also do things on your blog to attract attention and invite interaction. Discussion questions are good. Photos often get comments. Check if there are any popular things you like, where you'd have that in common with many others, so if you write about it then you'd have a higher chance of people being interested. Popular Interests is a good place to look for that.
