Some communities and individual blogs have weekly activities or events that take place at a particular time. Most of these happen either at the beginning or the end of each week, most notably a gather post or a weekly update. Others happen at different times, and in fact there are lists of topics for every day of the week. Many people like to pick several events to space out through the week. This is one of the best ways to pin down the main topics of a blog or community. Events that run for one week also fall into the category of weekly events. This includes some challenges that have week-long sessions per prompt. Most people consider a blog or community "active" if it posts at least once a week, so this is a great way to maintain activity.

Fannish activities often advertise in [community profile] fandomcalendar and/or [community profile] fandom_on_dw so watch those if this field interests you. Of these, [community profile] fandomcalendar offers convenient Format: Fanweek and Frequency: Weekly tags, although not all relevant posts use those tags. [community profile] fandom_on_dw does not offer frequency tags, but is a popular place to post all types of fannish events.

Other topics can be harder to hunt down because moderators often do not mark their community with Interests or Tags such as "weekly," "every 7 days," or other helpful descriptors of timing. However, it's worth trying the search tools for both of those features just in case. You can still find them by watching your reading page for things that your friends are doing. Some monthly events have banners that participants can use to promote them, and even with those that don't, you may see friends talking about what things they have signed up to do.

If you like "bleg" posts (short for "blog begging" where you ask questions of your audience) then this is a great topic for that. You can ask your friends what weekly events they are doing and/or which ones they recommend for you.

If you run a weekly community and/or make weekly posts in your blog, then put "weekly" in your Tags and Interests so that interested readers can find that. You may also find it helpful to note the frequency and any thematic plans in a calendar so you remember what to post when. If you're just repeating a gather post or using items from a list in order, you may not need the calendar support.

Weekly Activities and Communities

These have an official focus on posting once a week, or something similar in effect.

Community Thursday is a type of recurring post. Make an effort to engage with communities on Dreamwidth in one way or another, be it by commenting, posting, reccing, creating a community, or doing mod work for said community. Then talk about what you did in your journal, using the Community Thursday tag. Important: add Community Thursday to your Interests so that people can search for it, because the tag only lets them find it from inside your blog.

7 Days Of / 52 Weeks Of ...

Some challenges have a 7-day structure, whether online or offline. Some folks will grab any set of 7 and post it to their blog, usually one day at a time. There are also lists of 52 meant for one per week all year long. These are great if your brain tends to go, "AAAA I don't know what to post about AAAA" when you sit down to write. It's also a quick way to jumpstart a community. Here are some you might like to try:

Holiday Lists

Another way to generate wildly different ideas for blog posts is to use a list of "(thing) Week" or "Week of (thing)" holidays. Some holiday calendars also update weekly, giving you a look at noteworthy days coming up.

Recurring Posts

Weekly activities are a big category of recurring posts. Many of these appear either on the first day or the last day of the week. However, some bloggers pick a different day, or even several days each with its own theme.

Community moderators use recurring posts to make weekly check-ins, notify members about scheduled events, ask for volunteers, update members on community activity levels, encourage interaction, and so on. Usually this is just a copy of the basic form message, sometimes with changing details (like a weekly theme) updated accordingly.

Individual bloggers often use a recurring post to track things of personal interest. Writers may post the number of words written each week. Fanwriters may post a list of works created with links where you can find them, or just announce that they updated their Master List of Fics.

See the entry on Recurring Posts for more ideas. Here are a few popular options:

Other Weekly Activities

Some weekly events don't fit neatly into any of the large categories. These are among the hardest to find, but well worth hunting if you want something outside of fandom. Watch your reading page for banners or friends talking about these events. You can also ask your audience if they know of any.

Bloggers may grab a "week of" and feature it. With a little searching, you can often find a list of prompts or suggested activities for that week's theme.

If you look at my Recurring Posts tag, you can see that I have:
Monday Update (which isn't actually on that tag)
Wednesday Rotation (Good News, Hard Things, Cuddle Party)
Thursday (currently Hobbies)
Follow Friday
Saturday (currently Philosophical Questions)
