Dreamwidth! What Do You Do With Your Journal ._. (Newcomers Edition)

Now, you might be like me where you're kinda unsure what to do with your journal once you have it. I know I can struggle with it even now. But here's on some ideas on what to post about in case you want them;

Making Fanfic & Fanart
You can write & post fanfic/fanart here! There are communities here for sharing your works like writethisfanfic, vocab_drabbles, 100ships, justcreate & allbingo. More fannish activities can be found on fandomcalendar & fandom_on_dw.

Making Icons
Now, if you are on dreamwidth then you know you can have more then 1 icon per account. Now, some people like getting icons by others for various reasons. Even then, making icons is basically seen as its own art here, like on 20icontables & icontalking. A longer list of graphics coms was made by ysabetwordsmith. You can create a table of icons on Chlor's Icon Table Maker.

Rec Works
You wanna gush about works you love and why they're great, fancake is a place that offers prompts in case you want. But you can also just, do that on your own journal & for original works.

Write Meta
You've got some thoughts that go into analysis terratory? Whelp, why not organize these thoughts into meta that others can read about? ysabetwordsmith has a whole series talking about the importance of meta & includes a "how to" for it.

Simply Journal!
This might seem obvious, but just document stuff that happened to you &/or that you experianced. If you wanna share thoughts or ideas in regards to journaling, journalsandplanners is there for you!

I know I've refrenced her a lot in this post, but that's cause she does a lot to try to help Dreamwidth. Not that nobody else does, everyone adding comments, posts, links & more helps make Dreamwidth stay alive.

Good suggestions! Might be worth noting that DW has limited default image hosting space so if you're doing things that are image-heavy like posting lots of icons and fan art you probably want an external host, and a lot of the old ones are defunct. A good one I use these days is cubeupload and I'm sure there are others.

We really need to get someone who is an actual artist and experienced with such things to compile a list of possible image hosts. I cobbled up a list of articles with "alternatives to Tumblr" but it's not targeted, and we clearly need a post about image hosts. *sigh*

Honestly, I might just make an open post for that. "Hey, who here knows about image hosts? Here's the ones I know about/have seen suggested, how about you? Share in the comments!" Get a bunch of suggestions in one place, learn pros and cons, etc. And if a more artsy person decides to step up and take the reigns, all the better!

I'm not really experienced per se, as I've only uploaded art here twice so far (more coming!), but as a mainly visual artist this was a concern of mine. I included a link to someone else's post about this as well as more options in this post I made for Three Weeks. Feel free to steal, I wrote it so I have something to put in my sticky for people who discover DW through me.
