What languages do you speak? English (native/fluent), Japanese (conversational/survival), Dutch (beginner) What are some of your favorite hobbies? crochet, doll collecting & photography, writing, trying to get (back) into quilting… What media is important to you? I have a whole collection dedicated to this question. Do you have pets? I have a black cat named Tiamat. What does your average day look like? I'm a full time librarian at an international school in Tokyo. I try to get up early so I have time to create (crochet, write) and watch TV before I go to work because I come home worn out pretty much every day. (I have energy limiting chronic illness(es) so I'm always tired.)
What is your Dreamwidth blog like? It's a diary that I let other people read. How active is it? I update (at least) once a day on most days. What are your most common topics? Recent post topics, in reverse-chronological order: going (back) to grad school, medical/dental woes, Jewish conversion (in progress), secularization of yoga/media analysis, growing old(er), a trip I took to Enoshima over a long weekend, and my daily life at work. I also post about my feelings on (so-called) "AI" [negative], surviving a cult [funny in hindsight!], and querying agents [soul crushing]. Is your blog more text-heavy or image-heavy? I'd say my posts are overwhelmingly text-based but I'm trying to embed photos more often. I like to link back and cross-reference posts, photos, etc. Is your blog more personal, professional, topical, or a mix? 1,000% personal. Sometimes that includes writing about my day job or my writing career or a topic that's on my mind but the this is unfiltered, first draft diary stuff - not a polished, professional, public-facing blog. Is it all open, all friendslocked, or somewhere in between? It's all friends only. Do you use filters, and if so, what kinds? No but I will put potentially triggering content under a cut. (If we're mutuals, you're welcome to message me and ask for X to always be noted/under a cut!) What are your policies on friending and granting access, if any? I'll add pretty much anyone.
How often do you check your friends feed? Usually twice daily: once before work and once after. I comment when I feel like I have something to say and/or when someone indicates in their post that they're seeking advice, feedback, etc. What kinds of blogs or topics do you most enjoy reading? I like to read about other people's daily lives, deep thoughts, shower thoughts, anything. It's an intimate kind of sharing that I appreciate [I am "from" LiveJournal] but don't find on other platforms. What are some of your favorite communities on Dreamwidth? I started a doll collecting community here - allkindsofdolls - and I would love to see more activity there~ (Just sayin'.)
